Studying fly culture

Put flies into collector:
l Pull up plugs a little so its easy to remove them with one grip.
l Tap them on a pounding pad
l Quickly transfer them into collector, with a funnel.

Selecting for pairs
l Put one pinch of yeast in all the vials, place them upside
down.(avoid other flies contaminate)
l Gunning them in the collector
l Place all the slept ones onto the gas plate
l Group them(16 female, a little less male eg.14) on the desk into
diff groups/piles eg,5
l Place different piles into tubes, label with respected color of the day.
l Do the whole procedure in less than 5 min-otherwise males get brain
damaged.
Notes:
l Distinguish young ones: young male has brownish at back end of
abdominal area.
l Daily color code
l Yeast for protein supply. (Just like female mosquito drink blood so
they can ley eggs)
